JUST STOP USING! Have you heard that from anyone lately? If they only knew how desperately you want to stop. Even when you think about getting sober, the thought of it creates an enormous amount of anxiety. If you are already dealing with anxiety, adding to it makes sobriety seem impossible.
What is anxiety? It may appear as excessive worry, compulsions you can’t control, heart racing, sweaty hands, breathlessness, hand tingling, disconnectedness, and light headedness. It can feel like you are having a heart attack, breathing issues, or even low blood sugar. It can cause insomnia, irritability, difficulties at work, relationship problems, and drug use through self-medication. If any of this sounds familiar, you are not alone! There is hope for overcoming anxiety! If you would like to talk to me personally about your anxiety or drug use, don’t hesitate to call me at SOAR. In the coming weeks, I’ll be talking about practical ways to deal with anxiety.
